When I first saw this, I just stared at the chipping blue paint and the rusty splotch, thinking that whatever this was, it wasn't very well taken care of. I knew I was outdoors because of the lighting and the fact that most things that are rusty live outside. I really like the bit to the left of the rust splotch where the blue is chipping in larger pieces. After seeing the entire image, I want to say this is a dumpster and not someone's old clunky car.
To leave a bit of mystery about the subject, you could have cropped the image a little higher to right under the rust area and then down to under the lip of the top. The way you left it still works though, because it frames the subject of the photo. I like the contrast between the blue and the rust, and how you can see different shades and layers of color in the entire image. The entire image looks in focus to me, which is okay, because the rust and chipping pain draws my eye anyway. The balance of this image works because the chipping paint on the left side levels out the rust on the right. The lightness of the rust versus the darker tones in the chipping blue make the image very well-composed. You could have gotten much closer to the image to make it more abstract, but I like knowing what it is (or assuming I know). I think you could have darkened the image a tiny bit and played up the contrast in color as well to make it pop even more. The peeling and the rust give off a tone of old and uncared for, so it definitely works with the prompt. I like how I had to really look at this image and delve into it to guess what it is--it seemed more abstract at first glance than it does now. That gave the image a lot of depth for me and made it successful.
