  1. “Makeup Makeover” I named this photo “Makeup Makeover” because the cosmetic products are clustered together as if someone is going to use all three on their self. The story that comes to mind as I look at this picture is of someone preparing for a date. The person could be going anywhere, but the pink nail polish screams flirty to me, causing me to believe that the outing would be a first or second date. The eye/lip liner looks like it has been used a lot, so we can say that its owner enjoys wearing makeup, which could add to the story. The picture evokes associations of femininity, parties, dates, flirting, makeup, and beauty.

What works well with this picture is the idea of adding depth of field. I enjoy being pretty much eye level with the products. The cosmetics all look dominant, even though we know that they are all different sizes. I think what may not work as well, or just needs improvement is the tightness of the picture. The products look like they have been cropped perfectly into the frame, and although it is not a terrible idea, it would be nice to see the products breath a bit, and although the background is out of focus, I’d like to see more of it. The picture looks really tight, and I think a little more room would make a good picture even better. I would also try playing around with lighting a bit. Some areas look more lit than others.
