I love this image a lot. It says "beach" in an unconventional way. The open yellow object, which looks like a "real lemon" container or something. It denotes, sunshine. The speckled blue surface is like the ocean or sky. No matter what, this seems like a happy time.
What really works for me, is the color contrast and the composition. You effectively utilize the rule of thirds by placing your subject in an interesting corner of the picture, instead of dead center. I also like that you chose a textured or gravel like backdrop against the smooth lemon egg thingie. Also, I think you made a conscious decision to open the lemon container to evoke happiness or a sense of openness. Summer is a time for adventure, sunshine and happiness, no matter what it is.
I also like the angle as well, however, I wonder how it would look if you were to get lower and shoot a little closer to the lemon object and add a bit of depth of field to knock out the background a little more.
The only thing I think could use some improvement would be the light on the object. I know this is direct light from the Sun...but perhaps a different position or angle could eliminate the harsh shadow (shooting at high noon?) and the "hot" spot on the lemon container, egg thing.
Other than that, I think this is a creative image and I really think you captured the essence of Summer in a more conceptual manner...which always is more interesting.
