First Day of Summer - Michelle Stidham

  1. I would name this The Refresh. It just seems like a refreshing image with the crisp green grass and the bright yellow label of the beer. I can imagine walking barefoot, beer in hand, to go sit in the grass with a book one afternoon. The sky is always bright blue on a day like this, and the clouds are those huge white puffy ones that seem to expand as you lie and watch them. There are sounds of birds and people out enjoying the weather, but they're a nice background sound tract to the inevitable nap brought on by such a perfectly relaxing afternoon. (The nap and the rest would be a refreshing contrast to the first day of summer I actually had stuck in traffic.)

Cold beer is also refreshing when it's hot out and you have nothing productive to do. The word "summer" in the name of the beer tells me that this is a seasonal product, and the green grass help me know that it is probably warm out. The lemons at the bottom of the label bring a sour crispness to mind and make me think of the refreshing taste of lemonade on a hot summer day.

I think you did a great job with the angle, cropping, and the placement of the bottle in the grass. I like the bits of grass reaching up towards the bottle and the great shade of green. The focus on the label is nice, but I feel like you could have worked a bit more with your focus on the closer blades of grass. I like the blurs, but the one just right of the lower middle distracts me somewhat.

    Great work!

  2. In my mind's eye the picture outside of the image includes a lawn chair and a bbq. Cool photo.
