Something I Cant live with out- Clifford Guest

  1. I think Clifford’s photograph of a group of spunky kids, which it appears that he may coach, is a great photo to describe what he can’t live without. In relation to the class’ work as a whole, this picture is a good fit. Just like everyone else’s photo, the picture shows something that is obviously close to him. From the photo, you can sense the close relationship between Clifford and the children due to their willingness to be free and themselves. I love the fact that the children are this comfortable because even though they are posing in similar ways, you can sense each person’s personality. Because we now have an idea of who these children are, as an audience, we can relate to Clifford and understand why he adores this group of children so much.
I love the dimensions of this photo, as the children are in the foreground, but our eyes become intrigued with the gated fence, and the many lines of this fence, behind them. We are also drawn to the bright lavender and blue building behind the fence as well. This is a good composition. It is a typical group photo that doesn’t say anything special (as far as angle) but allows the subjects to do all of the talking. The lighting in this picture is natural sunlight, as the golden sun seems to be setting and shining right against the children, making some of their brown skin tones look golden or bronze. There is a brown box that sits on the ground near the children standing in the back, it can easily be overlooked, however once spotted it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. There is a roughness, yet charm to this picture that makes you love these children just as much as the photographer does.
