This fits in the whole work of the class because it shows contrast. The darker hair and sunglasses is a contrast to the bright sky with the white clouds. At the same time it fits because the bright skies with the dark sunglasses create a relaxed mood. It makes me think of a simple day relaxing at the beach.
I think by not taking the picture of the whole face gives variance to the idea of "selfie." The background becomes part of the theme. And I think there is an asymmetrical balance of how much of the face is shown versus to how much background is shown. The increased contrast shows an overall texture of smoothness. The fluffy clouds, the sun gleaming on the hair and reflecting on the sunglasses creates a relaxing summer theme.
