Something I Can't Live Without - Michelle Stidham

  1. The photo really works for me. The light that is glowing illuminates the dark. I feel intimate physically. The dark background makes the light bulb distinctive; the soft halos remind me the moon hanging on the middle welkin. It reveals the truth that the light is the indispensable resource for us.

I love the contrast shown on the picture. Besides the color contrasting, the texture has a sharp comparison. The metal threaded base has a clear appearance—I even can count how many circles on the screw cap. The rest part of the bulb is invisible. I assume that the photographer has a considered decision for the composition. The striking distinction between the textures underscores the softness of the incandescent lamb.

The photo attracts me as it builds up the common ground for the viewers. Simple lighting setting drags me to look at it absorbedly. Though ordinary it is, I wonder how we could survive if we lost it. It has relieved the glum in a gloomy winter; it has brightened up a lonely spirit when she/he in a desperation. How amazing! The most joyful happiness is resulted from the simplest moment.

The photographer utilizes the black ground effectively as it really evokes a sensation of directing. The proper composition causes me to think of the beacon, on the night, for a voyage and a streetlight for a late-back proprietor. The gleaming light is more like the softening agents that sooth one’s anxious and boosts the confidence for them. I love the light from the picture.
