This reminds me of a picture story. I can totally see this as a picture in a picture story about a ranch, the horse, veterinarian or something along those lines. You bring interest to the photograph by choosing one thing or a whole to photograph. This tells a story, without being so literal. Photojournalism.
I think you cropped the picture well and it seems you consciously did so. I like the hoof or paw on the wooden backdrop. It personifies the animal or gives it a humanistic element about it, b/c this usually doesn’t happen in nature.
I think this fits well within the theme of shooting an animal…but in a creative manner. You could have shot the entire animal, but there was a lot of thought behind this picture.
The exposure overall could have been a tad better. The top of the image is blown out a bit. I think you could have got a little closer as well to really capture the detail and hair more. However, it makes me want to touch it, b/c it’s interesting.
Your best yet. The texture and lines all draw our eyes in.
