1st Day of Summer- Imani Carter

  1. I would name this picture Summer Impression. The picture is more like a flashback engraving on one’s memory. The dreamlike surrounding—building, street scenery, river and trees—is illusive. In another word, it presents a world that exists between reality and fantasy. The sky is purplish and the street, in the distance, is watercolor painted. Especially, the tree in the foreground has bunched of dark leaves clustering together, forming a shadowed pencil depiction. I am in a summer of somebody’s dream.

The picture still makes me feel the blazing sunshine as a few of yellowish colors allocated in the river, sidewalk and between the leaves. I love how the photographer forms the picture. The branch that is crossing over the lens and touching the building on the right-side frames the picture naturally. Due to the angles, I feel that I am standing on the top of the hill to overlook the city on a summer afternoon.

Appropriate shooting angle innovates the photo and endows it with a great meaning. Without the branch, the photo will be less interesting. I assume that the photographer has considered about the contrast. The dark leaves are rivaled with purplish blue sky, proving the visual drama for the viewers. The curve in the PS is much helpful.

It seems that the photo is surrealism. It is beyond the bounds of the reality. The white sky, in the distance, looks like overexposure and the color is unreal. If it’s the visual effect that the photo strives to reach, I think the photo has a painting-like appearance. Overall, it is an interesting piece, which is different from other photos.
