Animal - May LaRosa

  1. Peek a boo!

Aww this is cute! I love that the cat is black and its eyes are that lovely golden yellow used for spooky cat images. At least, I think this image was manipulated a bit to make the cat's fur darker than its norm. The patch next to its right eye and near its nose suggest it may not be a true black. Add the grainy nature of the photo and I think this was given a watercolor treatment in Photoshop that is not to ill effect. I think the light flower pattern on the sheets adds to the whimsy this photo inspires. The combo, blackish cat and flower sheets, is rather quirky however. It gives the illusion that the cat is a friendly creature instead of being a symbol of foreboding.

In relation to the rest of the work, I think this is a good addition to this collection. If this were a fall class instead of a summer course, this could fit into a Halloween theme. I could groan that the blog is not set up in the photo layout so I could easily compare the photographer’s work/growth but I do not think it would be considered an ill fit within the class’s work. The horizontal framing of the piece is not a common approach as it lends a flavor to the piece and the class has used it sparingly and when appropriate. This is a prime example of the sound judgment shown in the work of the class.

  2. This reminds me of a cartoon--they always show glowing eyes in forests. I love this shot.
