Detail-Imani Carter

  1. The class pictures for this subject seem to be cultural-based. A lot of the photographs are cloths or something they value. As for this photographed, it really shines through of your interest and how you see yourself in the world.

The texture is great. I wanted to run my fingers across the mask. I can imagine how the material feels. It’s African art and it looks like royalty…like a young prince or maybe a king, even. African pride is a real thing and I see that you are happy with your culture and ethnic background. And I also think you see yourself as such…a strong and powerful being.

The composition of the picture makes this more interesting. Even though you cut the top of the mask off, it still gives enough detail. I like that the choice of b/w, because it adds a bit of a “history” element. The white background is a great contrast and is not distracting and the lighting is good. The light is “hot” in the forehead area, but I think it’s ok in this case. The image is black, so you have to make sure there’s enough light, so you did well.

Overall, I like the image and the detail you were able to get is great!
