Something I Can't Live Without - Teresa Mack

  1. This topic is great, because it is so personal and it casts such a wide net. This is the only picture from today that highlights religion and to me that gives a nod to the photographer’s values.

While I (and humanity) might have some serious issues if I couldn’t have cookies, or I do know there will be a time I will have to say good-bye to my pup, this image reflects the life-long character of this person.

This photograph of an open page of the Bible has a lot of visual interest. While this image is landscaped, the image has this great vertical feel, because the image was shot perpendicular to the text. The left hand side of the page is at the bottom of the image, and the text is going straight up to the top of the image.

It uses great dept of field, we can read the text that is close to us, but as it gets farther away, and on to the opposing page, we cannot make it out, although we can still make out that it is n open book. Something that is in focus, is that we can clearly see the book chapter, and verse where the book is opened to. This makes the viewer start to read, and think “why – why this verse?” as we are lead into the text.

The final thing that I saw, was the bottom right of the right hand page is highlighted – two paragraphs, one in yellow, one in pink. Because of the low light and low contrast of the shot, these highlighted paragraphs seem like small details, but I am left with wanting to know more about the photographer, and again why she chose this page, and why she highlighted that passage.
