@ 7:30 (p.m.) – Mariama Gregory

  1. I am drawn to this image for a number of reasons. This is the only image of this topic where the subject is a person. Most of the images from this topic are of 7:30 pm, and are focused on what that photographer was doing, but not who they were with.

Our 7:30 in the evening in June is an hour just before sunset, and I look at this picture, and am absolutely “there” – this is certainly not 7:30 in December. The light is slanting, in that lovely summer, end-of the-day way, and you start to feel like your soul is wrapped up in it. What is more, the subject reflects that too. The light is shining on the top of her head, she is looking down, and her long hair runs vertically down on the right side of the picture, where the sun is coming from, and the sun catches the ends of the hair, making it glow.

Dressed in bright yellow, wearing a contrasting turquoise colored necklace, sitting on a beach, she is surrounded by palm trees. Not quite sure what she is sitting on – maybe the end of a lounge chair), but it is also light blue.

These warm yellows and cool blues and the warm golden light coming from the sun surrounded by the beach help to put us in that time and place.
