Animal - Maria Nardini

  1. Overall I like this image because of the cropping and the subject matter. It reminds me of something you would see when you buy a picture frame, I think I get this from the sepia tone the picture has. Looking at the work amongst the class this piece along with many others seems to be a close up shot an animal that is cropped in not allowing the viewer to see the whole body of the puppy. It looks as though it is a puppy chewing on a stick with its head down looking at it as he is between chews with it against his lips. The way the photo is cropped the viewers eyes are drawn through the photo by the paws that lead to the head and the head leads up and out of the photo because the top is cropped off. This is the only photo that used a coloring technique; I do not think it is the appropriate place to use sepia. We do not get that fluffy, soft puppy, playful feel that we should get from this little guy. I think maybe you could have pulled down the saturation a bit to give a softer illusion instead of using sepia. Overall it is a well-framed image and is interesting to look at but that may be my puppy obsession talking.
