It's a bit dark because of the shadows. Bring up the levels/curves in PS. Try to move around the object when you compose your images. This was shot straight down with the object in shadows. What if you physically moved, or moved the camera?

When I first saw this photo, my eye was immediately drawn to the kiwi's rich green color and the contrast of the black seeds. I love the colors that are displayed here; this creamy treat makes me think of the perfect indulgence after dinner. The array of hues make this ice cream photo fun and engaging. Although I am not a fan of ice cream, I was drawn to this photo because it just looks enticing and oh so enjoyable. The coconut shavings give the photo texture and a tropical feel. I’m not sure if the red in the photo is chopped cherries or chopped strawberries, but it adds just enough color to compliment the photo. The lighting was perfect. It was shot at an aerial view which I think shows the all of the characteristics of this treat.
