This is a photograph of, assumingly, a man standing in what could be an empty room (besides the photographer). The guy is wearing slouchy denim jeans and brown and white converse sneakers. The white shoestrings of the converses are loosely tied and fall over the shoes. ¬¬¬The subject is standing on a blue carpet that doesn’t seem to have too much cushion. There are multiple colors freckled on the carpet. There is a reddish brick wall in the background. On the brick wall hangs a reddish orange fabric with black trimming. The foreground of the image is rather dark, as we see light and highlights in that back and far upper right corner of the image.
The composition of this image is interesting because although we take interest in the shoes, we are more compelled to look at the mysterious light in the back, and can’t help but wonder where it leads to. The light even creates shadows on the subject’s jeans and different spots on the carpet. This picture was taken in a short/medium depth of field, as the subject is clear and in focus, while the background becomes out of focus.
There is a lot of space in this photograph. The perspective of the image is interesting because Chris did not directly take a photo of the subject’s shoes, but more so of the setting with the shoes in the shot. The angle is so interesting that the photo could stand-alone without the shoes in the shot, even though that was the assignment.
