Nature - Lynora Lawless

  1. I would name this Fantastical Garden. I don't know what it is with me and purples, but I always get a sense of fantasy or fairy tale when I see them in nature. The story to me is about someone walking through the woods and finds a garden in a clearing. They see what they think is a butterfly, but is actually a fairy. The person walks closer to the garden and looks at the flower they thought they saw movement by, but there is just stillness amongst the flowers because the fairies are shy.

I think you did a great job with framing, focus, and colors. I like how the flower part of the plant is in focus and the very top leaf is. The leaf almost looks like it has moisture on it because of the way it's just this side of focus. The colors dotting the background enhance the colors in the foreground and offset the greens. The lines in the stalk help balance the image. The cropping also adds to the balance, and I like how the stalk is centered but the flowers aren't, but everything still works because of that one out of focus leaf on the left. The flower is so isolated that it appears to be emerging from the foliage.

The only critique I can give is to further enhance the greens and black areas to give a bit more depth to the photo. Play with exposure at the top on the flowering area some as well and leave a tiny bit more room at the top of the image. It almost feels like the flower is going to hit the top of the image--not much more room, just see how the balance is affected by it.

    Great photo! Love the colors!
