The black back ground makes the white ice cream to appear that much brighter. Ice cream is one of my favorite foods, it gives me a warm feeling inside . I think this feeling stems from the creamy sweetness in every bite. The soft meted edges in the photo and dark background help to allude to a warm summer night. There is no better way to cap off a summer night than some ice cream. I love the in the face quality of the photo but those that may not be as fanatical about ice cream would enjoy it.
Since the ice cream cup is clear it also helps to convey the melting into liquid state that the ice cream is in. Without being able to see this through the clear cups, I am not sure if the image would be as effective. The cropping and background choice help to paint the story of where and when the ice cream occurred and has done a great job making my mouth water.
Nice job overall. Use curves to bring your whites down just a bit. You've almost lost the highlights.
