Boredom - David Byrd

  1. Nice job relating it back to the theme.
It's dark and the color balance is off.

  2. “Hand of Time.” I named this photo “Hand of Time” because we see the hand of the clock approaching 12:00 hour. This picture is very interesting as it could tell several stories such as a clock that moves backwards or of the patience of time. I think many people can relate to this picture, as we all have stared at the clock for hours, waiting for a particular time to finally come. I think this picture reminds us and tells the story of how cautious and slow time can be. This picture evokes associations of boredom, stillness, anxiety and excitement. An element that really works for this image is the head on shot of the clock. As we know, a lot of straight on shots don’t work for photos, but I think this works so much because, as humans we look the clock dead in it’s eye (if it had one). Therefore, the perspective allows us to take the place of the photographer or the camera lens. It makes me feel like I am the one waiting for the hand to reach the 12, so I can run out of work, class, or whatever place I no longer want to be. But as always, there’s usually room for improvement in most photos. In the case of “Hand of Time” I think the image could be brightened, and maybe use a bit more color, since it was taken in color. If the photograph was formatted in black and white, I think it would be just as effective. I’ve been debating if I want to see more of the clock or just the 12. If we can’t see the whole clock, it would be nice to see more of the number 2, and more of the hand’s length.
