The photo brings me the complexity of emotion. It triggers my old memories: a wetted towel, which has a roughened surface tiled to the left, a ridged topography, that has stood along a roared river, and an unfinished construction site smeared during a damp day. Rugged texture is the first thing catching my attention, creating the visual interest of the whole picture.

The photographer utilizes the specialty of material—the sticky texture—to build the sense of the primitiveness for viewers. In fact, the material prods at my imagination about the mountain, river and nature. Moreover, the earthy color contributes to the visual effect. Ivory’s white decorated with blusher causes me to think of the colorful clay, which is one of precious resource of nature. Without extra lighting, the ice cream presents its guileless appearance.

Compare to the smooth and soft texture showing in the foreground, the terrace shape, which is the main focus of the picture, is obvious, It has rugged forms, which is the resources initiating my imagination with abandon in wild: the roared river, the texture of towel and a mudded country road. Some melted ice cream cause me to think of the puddle after a severe rainstorm during the summer. The noticeable contrast creates interest and manifests the focus in evidence as well.

Although the photo presents the craggy appearance of texture, the tone is the light. The pinkish cream still arouses my enthusiasm for a yummy treat—who will miss a chance having a creamy vanilla strawberry ice cream?

  2. It's flat/dark. You need more light on the subject and need to up the contrast by using levels/curves in PS.
The close up really gives us the texture. The abstraction of this really works.
