  2. This photo depicts what appears to be eggplant parmesan cooked in a black skillet or pan. The eggplant is breaded and then partially covered with a red sauce along with a mix of chunks of mozzarella and pieces of basil. I can just barely make out the very dark purple of the eggplant under the bread crumbs. The image is slightly out of focus so the textures and colors that compose this dish aren’t as clearly visible. Greater definition would make the eggplant parmesan look even more enticing than it does now.

The food is photographed on the original dish it was cooked in because I can just barely make out the bubbles of grease in the pan. This also indicates the dish is most likely still fresh and hot. The background is white so my entire focus is on the food and the black surface it is displayed on.

The overall image is slightly saturated and yellow. I’m not sure whether that resulted from a high ISO or the lighting. My first guess as a viewer is that the kitchen lighting played a factor in this outcome. The lighting also reflects off the sauce. The white mozzarella looks mostly yellow and orange and the green basil doesn’t pop but is more subdued and faded.

The photo was taken at just a slight angle from above rather than a complete birds-eye view or directly straight on. The eggplant also seems to be propped up on maybe another piece of eggplant or some sauce underneath.

  3. Terrific idea.
There isn't anything in focus. You want food to look good. Your best choice probably would have been long depth of field to get the entire subject in.
I like that this image spills out of the frame. It's taking over and spreading it's goodness.
