I liked this one because the "O" in the word orange looks like an orange, and the word is written in orange. I enjoy things like that, because I am a very literal person. The angle this shot was taken in gives it more depth. The subject could be a very bland one, but because it was taken looking up from a lower angle, makes it unique. It has a great snarky tone (which I like).
I really focus on the "O," the double underline, and how tiny the orange piece of chalk is in comparison to the others. I don't think the text would be as interesting without the underline or the leaf. The way the chalk is lined up at the bottom makes me feel like it could be competing with the subject of the photo. There could be a little more contrast between the color of the text and the chalkboard. (Maybe if the surface had been wiped clean first, it would have stood out more, but it would have lost a little of the authentic chalkboard look.) I like the balance of white space in the composition. It frames the subject and further emphasizes it. The lighting makes the colors very crisp, but I feel the brightness could be toned down a tad on the black surface--that might make the text stand out more as well. The angle and chalk make me feel like I'm a little kid in school looking up at the chalkboard. I can almost smell the dust from the chalk. The fact that I can see other walls and their colors makes me wonder if the chalkboard is really that chalk paint--how well does that work? (I think I want to do that in my future kitchen.) Your idea is very clean because of the balance and lines of the photo.
Great job! I think this is an interesting take on the subject.
Audrey - it is chalkboard paint. This picture was taken in my office. I love it and I recommended it to everyone. Just make sure you use about three coats!
[Ironic, tall, leaf, school, emphasis, dust, simple, unique, paint, white-space]
