My immediate reaction to this picture is equal parts dread and joy as I was flooded with memories of high school lacrosse practice. Seeing the yellow lacrosse balls and stick, I remember countless drills that involved running up and down the length of the field scooping ball after ball. But, I also remember the fun we had as a team powering through each practice.
The bright green of the grass contrasts well with the bright yellow of both the stick and balls. I think it is great how healthy the grass is, but it definitely needs to be mowed. As it is right now, it would make scooping up those balls a slightly more difficult feat.
The image has the same balance from left to right. The cluster of yellow balls on the left has the same weight and importance as the stick holding a single ball on the right. The image was shot with a medium depth of field and the entire image is in focus. As a viewer, I would have found this picture more interesting if emphasis was given to highlight a particular part of the picture. I would love to have seen the stick plunging into the balls and shot from above. Or, a short-depth of field used to focus in on the balls with the stick flat on the grass in the peripheral.
The lighting is nice. I can see just a slight reflection of light on the blades of grass off to the right. If the photographer shifted to the left and shot the content from an angle, rather than straight on, I think the same lighting would be evident throughout the image. The yellow and greens have a nice saturation and vibrancy that isn’t overwhelming and looks realistic.
Love the contrasting colors.
